1. PRL UPDATE- (preferred roaming list). If you are a Verizon customer, simply dial *228 send and press option 2 when promted. This should be the first thing you do when you experience low service. When you dial that number it downloads the latest PRL to your phone. Some networks may not suppot this technology (called over the air programming when you can dial a phone number and that updates the phone). If your network does not support over the air programming, you can bring the phone to them physically, and they can hook it up to the computer and manually update the PRL.
for more information on the PRL and how it works (visual diagram) see our PRL page.
2. SOFTWARE UPDATE / WARRANTY- Bring your phone to Verizon and have them do a software update on the phone. It is free to have them do this. If this does not help, they will replace the phone if it is covered under warranty
3. ANTENNA INFO: Some people think if they replace the antenna on there phone with a retractable antenna that is longer, they will have better service. Not true however. When a phone is manufactured, it is equipped with the best antenna that will work with it. If the new antenna is longer or shorter then the original antenna, you will have lower reception.
4. BROKEN / BENT PARTS- If you recently took your phone appart and put it back together and it has low service, its possable you bent the antenna connectors. The antenna connectors are mounted on the rear plastic housing on the phone, and sometimes on the phones mainboard. They press agaisnt the base of the antenna. If they bend at all, it will prevent contact from being made. If you adjust this part be very careful because it is easy to break. We have most of these replacment parts in our store.
5. WATER DAMAGE- if the phone gets wet, lots of times it causes low service. See our water damage page for details.
